World Environment Day celebrated annually on the 5th of June is the UN flagship day for encouraging global awareness and action to protect our environment. Since it began years ago, the event has grown to become a global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated in over 100 countries.
U-recycle Initiative Nigeria joined various organizations globally to register events on the UN platform to be a part of the event as it addresses some of the SDGs we are focused on; SDGs 13- Climate action and SDGs 15- Life on Land.
The theme for World Environment Day 2019 was “AIR POLLUTION”. Air pollution is a Global Health Emergency. Approximately 90% of people worldwide breathe polluted air causing nearly 7 million premature deaths annually.
This event also officially launched our second chapter at Abeokuta which is located in Ogun State, Nigeria. The activities to commemorate this day included making pledges to beat air pollution, group drawing and painting of the World Environment Day logo, group pictures with placards, beat air pollution awareness walk, discussion of various subtopics under air pollution.
